In recent years, there has been great development in the research, production and application of silicone resins at home and abroad, and the variety and output of products have doubled. Silicone resins for high temperature resistant coatings are mainly used for surface protection under high temperature conditions, such as carrier rockets, aircraft, ships, high temperature flues, tankers, liquid storage tanks, etc. Silicone resins are also commonly used as insulating paints for electrical equipment. It is used in the electronics field for packaging, keys, connectors, junction boxes, etc. of integrated circuits.


Pure silicone resins are one of the main research directions. This kind of resin is divided into two types in structure. The first type is that the molecular main chain is completely composed of -Si-O- bonds; the second type is that in -Si-O- molecules. Poly-element organosiloxane composed of B, Ti, Al, Sn, Pb and other elements is introduced into the bond to further improve the heat resistance and aging resistance of the resin. Modified silicone resins are another type of research. Pure silicone resins generally require high-temperature drying, long curing time, inconvenient large-area construction, poor adhesion and resistance to organic solvents, and poor mechanical strength of paint films at high temperatures. Modifications of other resins are often used to compensate for their shortcomings. . At home and abroad for modified silicone resins are: epoxy resin, polyester resin, polyurethane resin, acrylic resin, alkyd resin, etc. There are two methods of modification: physical blending and chemical modification. The properties of chemically modified resins are better than physical blending resins.


With the development of modern science and technology, in the high-tech fields such as aviation, aerospace, electronics, and machinery, the heat resistance of coatings has been increasingly demanded, such as used in air heat exchangers on jet aircraft. Silicone high-temperature resistant paints, silicone thermal insulation coatings used on spacecraft, silicone or inorganic ceramic coatings on aircraft and rocket heads all require excellent heat resistance. Silicone resins use silicon-oxygen bonds as the molecular backbone. Si-O bonds have greater bond energy than C-C bonds in ordinary organic polymers. The difference between the electronegativity of the Si and O atoms in the bond is large, so the polarity of the bond is large, which shields the attached hydroxyl group, improves the oxidation stability, and the hydroxyl group connected to the Si atom is thermally oxidized. A more stable cross-linking Si-O-Si bond is generated, which can prevent the cleavage and degradation of the main bond. In addition, a protective layer rich in -Si-O-Si-bonds was formed on the surface of the silicone polymer, which reduced the influence on the interior of the polymer. All of these are silicone polymers with excellent high temperature resistance and weather resistance.
